"Poquito" is well-known as one of the leading Spanish bars in Kyoto. Step through the friendly wooden door and you'll immediately notice the colorful, eye-catching Pinchos(small snack) in a showcase on the other side of the counter. The case is able to slide up and down the bar counter, a novel trick that allows customers to easily choose a snack to accompany their drink. But "Poquito" doesn't just serve bar snacks, what really sets it apart is the fact that you are also able to enjoy a full meal of top-quality food here.
The owner-chef, Kazunori Hirooka originally trained at an Italian restaurant, but after visiting Spain on holiday, he fell in love with the local bars and decided to open the same style of the bar in his native Kyoto. On the blackboard, you will find many examples of food that amply shows off Chef Hirooka's prodigious talents. Plenty of seasonal ingredients go into dishes such as Ajillo and pasta with intricate sauces, and sometimes you'll even find the wild game on the menu. The "Poquito" Salad features 7-8 seasonal vegetables procured from Miyama and Wachi simply dressed with salt and lemon-flavor olive oil, and it has remained a popular choice ever since the bar opened. There is a large selection of wine at the bar, and if you let the chef - who is also a qualified sommelier - know your tastes, then he will pick out something to suit the food.
