A Kyoto cuisine restaurant near the Tatsumi shrine for those in the know.

A 3-minute walk from Keihan Honsen Gion-shijo Station and located in a corner of geisha district near Tatsumi Shrine, Ajisho Teraoka was opened in 2016. Before moving to the current location, it was a little-known place where the number of regular customers gradually increased as word of mouth spread that “there’s a great place” in the south side of Shijokawaramachi. The interior of the Kyomachiya restaurant, which blends in the Gion city, is bright and clean, with ancient traditional Japanese carvings on the wood, while giving it a modern atmosphere.

Here you can have orthodox Kyoto cuisine that preserves Japanese tradition. Using vegetables from Kyoto and freshly caught seafood from the Sea of Japan and the Seto Inland Sea, the food will allow you to experience the four seasons and satisfy your taste buds. Owner and head chef Teraoka and restaurant manager Ota both honed their skills at the same long-established restaurant in Kyoto. Watching them work together so efficiently and seamlessly is truly refreshing. With qualifications as a sake expert with the Japan Sake Association, Teraoka and Ota both have a deep knowledge of alcohol. Of course, the restaurant boasts a collection of alcohol such as shochu and sake that alcohol lovers’ dream of, so feel free to enjoy a drink that fits your meal.

Inside the restaurant are counter seats where you can enjoy watching the skills of the two chefs and private rooms for every situation from auspicious events to memorial services, as well as business entertainment.
