Steakhouse Restaurant Sugita is located in Shiodome, Tokyo, in an area with few restaurants and surrounded by office buildings. There is no signboard, and the phone number is unlisted. It is a hideaway restaurant for those in the know, and it is not listed on gourmet websites.
Owner Yasushi Sugita trained at the French restaurant Jean Moulin, a Kobe restaurant famous among food enthusiasts, for 7 years before he succeeded his father's long-established steakhouse restaurant "Sugita" in Kitashinchi, Osaka. With high-quality meat perfectly grilled, the restaurant became popular among gourmands not only for its steak, but also for the taste of other dishes. In July 2017, this famous restaurant closed its doors in Osaka for good and moved to Tokyo. The Sugita family used to own a timber wholesale store in Tokyo, and their dream was to open a restaurant in Tokyo. The wood design of their sign comes from that desire.
High-grade beef is purchased from all over the country such as Tajima beef, Kobe beef and stored in a large refrigerator set to 0°, which produce soft, rich meat with a deep flavor. The menu is the same as the one in Osaka, with a choice of having steak as the main dish, or enjoying various cuts of meat; the tenderloin meat is especially recommended. The souvenir beef fillet cutlet sandwich (by reservation only), which is grilled to a rose color, is also popular. For regular customers, a course is created for them based on their previous visits, which made the course different every time.
Wine and alcohol pairings are available, as well as rare wines. Inside the dim interior, jazz is playing in the background, and the food is served on antique wares. It is perfect for people who want to enjoy great meat.
