A venerable Japanese restaurant has expanded to Niseko, touting the charm of fireside banquet meals.

Known for its peerless powder snow, Niseko, Hokkaido, is a world-renowned ski resort to which visitors flock from all over the world. To bring the wonderful bounty of Hokkaido's lands to its international guests, 'Robata Niseko Naniwatei' opened in 2016 as the sister restaurant to 'Susukino Naniwatei', a revered location of 55 years with top-notch reputation for culinary experiences using local ingredients.

The head-chef, Tessei Fujita, was born in Hokkaido and polished his skills at Michelin 2-starred 'Kimoto' of Kobe, as well as the venerable 'Uemura' and other famous restaurants. He is well known for his skill, technique and creativity regarding traditional Kyoto cuisine, and acknowledged as a master of delicate, subtle flavors and artful presentation. Like its older sister, 'Robata Niseko Naniwatei' gathers the best of Hokkaido's seasonal ingredients to create a premier banquet meal for its guests. The restaurant also boasts a massive grill as the centerpiece of its wooden counter, and is popular for its exciting displays of the specialite, the barbecue grill menu. An example of the winter course menu could feature charcoal grilled kichiji rockfish from Nemuro, beef fillet from Hokkaido grilled over charcoal and flambéed with wine, and more; first class local ingredients are prepared spectacularly before the guests’ very eyes.

Naniwatei's specialty dishes, such as fresh seafood sashimi, rice seasoned and cooked with other ingredients in an earthenware pot, and tri-flavored (sweet/salty/sour) tomato are all included in the nutritionally balanced course meal, delighting all senses of guests present.

The restaurant is located in a corner of a farm, providing a luxurious view of Mt. Yotei, snow-clad in the winter and verdant in the summer. In addition to the 10 counter seats, where guests can enjoy fireside chats with the chef, there are 24 table seats perfect for a relaxing meal. The staff is proficient in English, putting those hosting visitors from abroad at ease. Gourmands in particular are encouraged to sample the world-class menu available only thanks to the fruitful harvest of the locale.
