""Alarde"" is a friendly world gourmet guide award restaurant serving up Basque cuisine in the relaxed Honmachi business district of Osaka. Run by chef Yoshitsugu Yamamoto, a seasoned professional with a decorated career abroad, it offers classic Spanish cuisines using fresh seasonal ingredients from local Japan.
Chef Yamamoto studied various culinary arts throughout his career, starting with a 6-year tenure at a traditional Japanese restaurant followed by 3 years at a restaurant in Argentina, where he studied the local cuisine. After that, he ventured to the Basque region of Spain, where for 3 years he honed his skills at Alameda, a restaurant that has held its world gourmet guide award for 20 years. Following his return to Japan, chef Yamamoto further mastered his craft at various restaurants across his homeland, before finally opening ""Alarde"" in early 2016.
""Alarde"" offers only one dining plan, a 9-course Basque cuisine meal. Particularly popular is the seasonal appetizer taster, a fixture featuring 4 appetizers that change on a monthly basis. Arriving in a picnic-like small wooden basket, the the arrangement contains exquisite dishes featuring delicacies such as marinated fish and gazpacho soup. The restaurant's specialite is also worth mention; ""Alarde"" uses a Spanish-style ""asador"" stone kiln, made to order and custom built by Osakan steel artisans. The meats and seafood cooked over the wood or charcoal fire in this old-style stone oven are, simply put, exceptional.
""Alarde""'s dessert specialite is a Basque-style cheesecake; again baked in the traditional style, the Basque-style boasts a crisp brown surface that belies the deliciously moist center, a combination that has captured the heart of many a fan. The selection of wines, limited to those of Spanish origin, includes 10+ varieties of Txakoli, a lightly sparkling wine that is a staple of the Basque lifestyle.
The interior of ""Alarde"" is designed to be reminiscent of restaurants found in the Basque region, with wood tones orchestrating a homey atmosphere with a sense of warmth. Seating is limited, with 8 at the counter facing the open kitchen, and tables seating 2 and 4 respectively. Sitting at the counter comes with a bonus though, with the asador kiln doing its job visible in the foreground. With both lively and relaxed casual nature, ""Alarde"" is a perfect spot for both dates and business receptions, and since children are welcome on weekdays, the restaurant also sees a great number of families come through its doors.
