Enjoy "stone-cooked dishes" using seasonal ingredients in a Japanese-style house surrounded by a garden.

"Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo" is a hotel with a Japanese garden that has different scenery for different season. Many guests visit not only from Japan but also overseas, with the hotel bustling with people every day.

What quietly lies in this beautiful Japanese garden is "Japanese Stone Grill Mokushundo", popular for being Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo's garden restaurant. With the beautiful scenery of each season - the cherry blossoms of spring, fireflies of early summer, autumn leaves, and snowscape of winter, allows guests to feel the sense of traditional Japan in its rich nature. The delicious food comes with the Japanese-style hospitality "Omotenashi", a moment to remember.

The head chef is Mr. Yoshiya Nojiri, who has over 20 years of experience in a Kaiseki (traditional Japanese course meal) restaurant in Kyoto. The dishes include not only those that shows his skill but also the "Ishi-yaki dishes" as the specialty, a slow-grill of carefully selected ingredients of the season on a natural lava plate from Mount Fuji. Since the food can be heated without using oil due to the far infrared radiation of the lava stone, the finish is soft and brings out the natural flavors of the meat, fish, and vegetables. The staff cooks right in front of guests is also one of the reasons why the restaurant is attractive.

For guest in the private rooms of "Japanese Stone Grill Mokushundo", the staff will escort you with lanterns from the hotel reception to the restaurant. A Japanese-style house with historical feel will appear after a short walk with the scenery along. Upon entering through the entrance, you will be experience a "Showa modern" atmosphere and a special ambiance that is hard to find in Tokyo.

There are 13 tables in the main dining room and 5 private rooms both with different sizes that can be used for 2 to 26 people. All of the private rooms are structured differently with the feeling of being invited to a Japanese-style house from over half a century ago. The upper floor of the two-story private room is especially popular and is highly regarded by those who know, as there is a view of the cherry trees during the cherry blossom season. There are also private rooms that have a sushi counter, where the chef makes sushi for you on the spot. This restaurant is often used for anniversaries and gatherings with overseas guests. Enjoy the meal in a Showa modern atmosphere will leave a memorable experience.

Although the English communication was limited, we could not but felt their friendliness through their service and eagerness to explain the dishes served. If you fancy a unagi dinner, this is the best local you will find. It is situated within suburbia in Ebisu and we were lucky to have booked a room for Christmas Eve. It was a 10 course kaiseki served with unagi and each of the dishes were perfectly presented and tastes were exquisite to Michelin standards. Highly recommended for unagi lovers!
