The original Jean-Georges is an upscale three-star French restaurant opened by famed French chef Jean Georges Vongerichten in New York. The chef’s signature French cuisine is now offered at Jean-Georges Tokyo in Roppongi Hills. Having trained at a three-star restaurant, chef Jean-Georges was inspired by his travels in Asia to open his own restaurant, revolutionizing traditional French cuisine with the aromas and flavors of the East. Subsequently, each of his 39 restaurants worldwide has garnered acclaim from critics and gourmets.
The first Jean-Georges location in Japan is helmed by Executive Chef Ryoichi Mochizuki. Officially appointed as the culinary ambassador to Japan, the former chef of Union Square Tokyo and Terres de Truffes now brings his culinary flair and expertise to Jean-Georges Tokyo, offering refined French cuisine infused with an ingenious blend of spices and herbs. In order to offer dishes of the highest quality, each ingredient is sourced from reliable producers with personal ties to the restaurant. The chef’s most iconic dish, Scramble Egg Caviar, is also served as a specialty at Jean-Georges Tokyo; as with the chef’s New York flagship, the dish features fluffy scrambled eggs served in an eggshell topped with caviar and infused with a hint of vodka. A selection of tasting menus are offered, along with dedicated vegetarian dishes that showcase the finest seasonal Japanese produce.
The wine list offers 200 bottles from chef Jean-Georges’ home region of Alsace, Champagne, and Bourgogne, as well as New World wines from California and Chile. The soft drink menu includes cold-pressed vegetable juices and home-made cocktails. The restaurant also offers wine pairings and non-alcohol pairing for its flavorful dishes.
The interior is adorned with marble and curtains woven from traditional Japanese paper threads and laces to add a sense of luxury and space. The restaurant has 14 counter seats on the first floor and a private chandelier room with 6 seats on the second floor. The first floor boasts a unique Japanese-style layout with a marble-clad counter facing the open kitchen, which chef Jean-George favors because it allows guests to enjoy watching the food being prepared, further enriching the dining experience. Each beautifully plated dish is presented on original plates as those used at the main location in New York to welcome guests into the world of Jean-Georges.
Explore the renowned chef’s world through his innovative, flavorful French cuisine and wines in an atmospheric modern dining space at Jean-Georges Tokyo, perfect for special date nights, anniversaries, and business dinners.
