A sushi kappo restaurant where guests can enjoy a sublime kappo meal finishing with sushi in a spacious private room

A one-minute walk from the station, Azabujuban Ozaki is located in a quiet area near Azabu Street. Here, chef Ichiro Ozaki, who fell in love with the town of Azabujuban, “where the good old days and the new come and go”, shows off his skills.

He entered the world of cooking at the age of 19, beginning an apprenticeship at a Ginza kappo restaurant and continuing until he was 25. After three years of study at a Japanese eatery, he joined a sushi restaurant run by his parents; seven and a half years later, he became independent and opened Azabujuban Ozaki in 2006.

Ozaki, who developed his skills at both a Japanese restaurant and a sushi restaurant, puts his mark on a cooking style called sushi kappo. While traditional sushi restaurants usually serve appetizers such as sashimi and nigiri sushi, at Azabujuban Ozaki, the chef serves sushi at the end. In his words, "cooking is a once-in-a-lifetime experience," and goes to Toyosu Market every day for the best fish and seafood of the day -- it is no exaggeration to say that the most delicious Japanese ingredients of the season, such as natural eel, sea urchin, shinko, hairy crab and kobako crab are all on the table. Tuna has a special place at this table, and has been used for many years without losing its rank.

The restaurant offers more than 20 varieties of sake and more than 10 kinds of shochu, as well as about 15 kinds of wine that Ozaki likes, mostly from France. Beer and sake are poured into tin cups from Kyoto Seikado for guests to enjoy; meanwhile, bowls are original pieces ordered from the makers of Bizen and Oribe ware.

Above all, Azabujuban Ozaki is a place where guests can enjoy memorable food in a spacious private room. There are 6 private rooms (hosting up to 5 diners), and 6 counter seats of which 3 can be reserved for private use. Sushi Kappo is where guests can relax and enjoy Japanese refined sushi courses with family, friends, or a date.
