A world-renowned steakhouse in the Arashiyama district of Kyoto offering a mythical Murasawa Wagyu beef sirloin steak at a reasonable price

A 3-minute walk from Arashiyama Station in Kyoto, Steak Otsuka is set in a calmer neighborhood in the north of the station compared to the tourist precincts in the south. Here, chef Yoichi Otsuka offers high-quality, authentic Wagyu beef steaks at accessible prices.

Otsuka previously worked at Ginkakuji Onishi for 10 years, a famous butcher shop in Kyoto, cutting beef for sale while serving as shop manager. Gaining a thorough knowledge of Wagyu beef, he opened Steak Otsuka in 2013 to create opportunities for guests to enjoy high-quality, authentic Wagyu beef. The next year, Steak Otsuka became famous nationwide as it was ranked the most popular restaurant for foreign travelers in Japan by the world’s largest travel review site. Then, after the restaurant moved to its current location in 2019, it became even more popular, and is now known for being perpetually booked.

All beef served at Steak Otsuka is sourced from Ginkakuji Onishi, which supplies the restaurant with only the best cuts of premium beef.
A 150-gram cut of premium beef is grilled on an infrared grill until crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, a method that removes excess fat and concentrates the meat’s flavor. Some rare cuts, such as flat iron, flap, and chuck flap, which are usually served in slices at Japanese BBQ restaurants, are exclusively served as thick steaks at Steak Otsuka.

One of the most popular menus is the restaurant’s Murasawa sirloin. Murasawa beef cattle, especially cows, are legendary for their scarcity -- only 80 heads of the cattle are shipped each year from Murasawa Farm in Nagano. Renowned for its tenderness and tastiness, this beef sells out so quickly that the restaurant is only open for lunch. Kyotamba Hirai sirloin is also popular for its rich flavor and the sweetness of its delicate fat.

The drinks menu includes not only beers and wines but also five options of carefully curated sake, such as Junmai Daiginjo Okinazuru from Oishi Sake Brewery in Kameoka, Kyoto.

The newly renovated restaurant boasts a sophisticated design, with 10 counter seats and 20 table seats.

Steak Otsuka is perfect for intimate meals with family, a partner, friends, or colleagues and parties for meat connoisseurs. The restaurants invites guests to visit the restaurant to enjoy premium Wagyu beef steak at a reasonable price.
