Enjoy Japanese-style yakiniku featuring meltingly tender Kuroge Wagyu beef, sourced through an old butcher’s shop

Found on the second floor of a building in Minami Aoyama, famous for the gingko trees that line its street, KIRAMEKI is a Japanese-style yakiniku restaurant opened in 2019 to offer Japanese barbecue that stands in contrast to Korean barbecue.

KIRAMEKIi offers its guests the highest-quality Kuroge Wagyu cow beef only, sourced through the Hiyama Group, an old butcher’s shop which opened in 1912 and now runs Sukiyaki Kappo Hiyama and Wagyu Hiyama. Kuroge Wagyu cows have a uniquely sweet aroma, and their meat melts tenderly in the mouth as its melting point is very low. Among them, the highest-quality beef with a fine texture and a rich, lingering flavor is carefully selected by discerning buyers, irrespective of their grades, brands, or places of origin.

The multi-course meal of KIRAMEKI includes a range of ways to enjoy the finest beef. The first course, rare roast Kuroge Wagyu beef and tartare, is particularly unique in the sense that it is served on a ginkgo leaf-shaped plate covered with ginkgo leaves. The sliced sirloin beef is also delicious, especially when dipped in Wagyu beef soup in a heated Nanbu iron bowl.

At the restaurant, meat is grilled by experienced staff immediately in front of guests. Of note, the day’s best beef grilled directly over Bincho charcoal is an incredible experience, with the texture and aroma that only charcoal can produce. The grilled meat is served with sweet yakiniku sauce with a seasonal flavor and a light taste.

The harmony of beef and yakiniku is enhanced even further with a glass of wine, which guests can choose from a carefully curated wine list that mainly showcases California wines selected by a trusted importer.

With six private and semi-private rooms, KIRAMEKI is designed in the Japanese style to create a pleasant atmosphere. The private rooms are lit by original paper lanterns made in collaboration with a fourth-generation lantern craftsman from Kyoto and a fourth-generation gold-leaf craftsman. The dishware and pots are also carefully selected, such as Arita ware and Nanbu iron. Thus, KIRAMEKI is suitable for a diverse range of occasions, such as intimate meals with family, a partner or friends, and entertaining business client and guests from abroad. Guests are invited to enjoy premium Japanese-style barbecue at the restaurant.

To book a private room for a group of two to seven people, please contact the restaurant through the inquiry on Pocket Concierge’s website.
