A two-star sushi restaurant in Osaka that offers an exciting sushi experience to add surprise and delight to authentic Japanese sushi

Located near Minami-morimachi Subway Station in Osaka, Sushiyoshi is a two-star sushi restaurant that attracts gourmands from around the world with sushi elaborately made by chef Hiroki Nakanoue to delight and excite.

Chef Nakanoue took over the sushi restaurant from his father at the age of 18: Two years later, he relocated it to the current premises, where he established his own culinary style. With the motto “fully devote yourself, give it your all, and give of yourself” as indicated by the calligraphy by Kanjiro Kawai displayed in the restaurant, he put in all his efforts, and the reputation of his sushi spread by word of mouth, allowing his restaurant to expand its clientele and eventually win two stars.

He also expanded his business to other countries and opened three restaurants in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Bangkok. Moreover, he is planning to open another restaurant in China in 2021.

“I want to eliminate the negative impression of Japanese sushi restaurants, such as being too highbrow, and adopt positive aspects of other restaurants,” he says. While his sushi respects tradition and focuses on classic flavors, playful side dishes served between each piece of sushi have been created to surprise and delight diners. For example, he offers dishes with flavored oil, such as Clams with Butterbur Flower Bud Flavored Oil, and uses French culinary techniques, as exemplified by a dish of sea urchin gougères. His experience in running restaurants abroad is what made him realize that what matters most is his guests’ enjoyment and overall dining experience.

The drinks menu has also been carefully curated by the chef to complement the flavors of each dish, including a Bourgogne-leaning selection of wines, as well as Kistler white wines from California and Japanese sake such as Hoken from Hiroshima and Mimurosugi from Nara. Guests can also ask the chef to select drinks for them.

Inside the restaurant, the eight-seat counter made of solid cypress wood welcomes guests. The Japanese-style interior is adorned with low chairs imported from a famous foreign brand to lift the room and guests’ spirits.

Diners are invited to enjoy chef Nakanoue’s exquisite and exciting sushi with family, partner, friends, or colleagues at Sushiyoshi, which offers never-ending excitement.
