Named after its location, Marunouchi, Tokyo, which was a residential area of feudal lords surrounded by the outer moat of Edo Castle in the Edo period and still remains the center of Tokyo, Marunouchi Terrace opened in 2020 at a convenient location, a four-minute walk from JR Tokyo Station and directly accessed from Tokyo Metro’s Otemachi Station. And the ninth floor of this shopping mall proudly houses a French restaurant called NINE by La Cime.
The concept and dishes of NINE by La Cime are supervised by Chef Yusuke Takada at La Cime in Osaka. The dishes presented by the chef who always brings new elements into French cuisine are full of exciting experiments that will completely change your perception of dining. The chef himself rose to fame at the helm of La Cime, which has been rated two stars in a world-renowned restaurant guide since 2016 and was once ranked 6th in the Best Restaurants in Asia in 2022.
Chef Takada’s concept is embodied in a new setting by Chef Toru Tokushima, who honed his culinary skills at French restaurants in Tokyo, including Terrace on the Bay, a modern French restaurant, in Hotel Nikko Tokyo (currently Hilton Tokyo Odaiba) before he took up the current position. These two chefs have worked together since they opened THE UPPER in Marunouchi Terrace in 2020. The proven techniques of Chef Tokushima give shape to the innovative ideas of Chef Tanaka.
NINE by La Cime is a foothold in Tokyo to give the widest possible publicity to the avant-garde world of Chef Tanaka. The dishes are characterized by their flexible use of ingredients, ranging from Japanese specialties to foodstuffs not traditionally found in French dishes, which come from reliable producers with whom the Japanese chef has built relationships of trust through visits to production areas. The Boudin Dog, a specialty of La Cime, is also available at NINE by La Cime though it is reinterpreted for the sister restaurant. The wine list offers some 200 labels, mainly from France, as well as pairing suggestions. In addition, a variety of cocktails are offered from the bar on the same floor.
With 13 tables and a private room that seats up to eight guests, NINE by La Cime has 44 seats in total, serving different purposes from dates to business meals as expected for its location.
The word “NINE” included in the restaurant’s name derives from its location of being on the ninth floor but also means the finality of all as it is the last number in the decimal system. In addition, it is associated with the following words “La Cime,” which means “top” or “summit” in French.
Inviting guests to discover the amazing world of Chef Takada in a different way from La Cime in Osaka, NINE by La Cime is definitely worth a try.
