A Japanese restaurant led by a chef with extensive overseas experience to reproduce the flavors and spirit of Japan in an old neighborhood that retains the friendly atmosphere of the shitamachi (low-lying) area

Situated at a convenient location, a few steps from Morishita Station and an eight-minute walk from Kiyosumi Shirakawa Station, in an old neighborhood that retains the friendly atmosphere of the shitamachi area, Nihon Ryori Takahashi is helmed by Chef Tadashi Takahashi, who aims to reproduce the flavors and spirit of Japan.

Chef Takahashi trained at renowned Japanese restaurants, including Wako in Mejiro (permanently closed) and two-starred Kaiseki Komuro in Kagurazaka, and further honed his culinary skills overseas at Nobu London in the UK, Nobu Melbourne in Australia, and a Japanese restaurant in Singapore before he opened his own restaurant, Nihon Ryori Takahashi, in 2020.
As he says that he “wanted to open a restaurant near Toyosu Market,” Chef Takahashi places great emphasis on the freshness of ingredients. He visits Toyosu Market every day to look for the best ingredients of the day while exchanging information with brokers on friendly terms and purchases plum, Japanese pepper, and wild duck from producers introduced to him by his former master at Kaiseki Komuro.
The chef’s choice meals consist of seven to eight courses, starting with appetizers and ending with Japanese mixed rice and desserts. The authentic Japanese dishes are conjured up from carefully selected ingredients by Chef Takahashi in front of guests at the counter.
Nihon Ryori Takahashi always keeps five to six labels of sake in stock, from which the chef selects pairings for guests who ask for suggestions based on their preferences and paces. For example, with a clean flavor, Kamokinshu from Hiroshima is good to start with. AKABU from Iwate, which has been included in the sake list since the chef worked in Singapore, is also worth a try. The plum wine home-brewed from plum directly sourced from the producer enjoys popularity as well.

In the understated dining room with warm wooden elements and vermillion accents, an inspiring painting by Akira Yamaguchi, a contemporary artist, conveys the spirit of Japanese culture. NIIZAWA Junmai Daiginjo, Japanese sake from Niizawa Brewery in Miyagi with a matching label designed by the same artist is also kept in stock.
“Take a step inside, and you will find yourself in another dimension. Enjoy the exciting world like an amusement park,” says Chef Takahashi. Follow his advice and share the amazing experience with your family, partner, friends, or colleagues. Guests from overseas can also enjoy Japanese dishes and friendly conversations with Chef Takahashi, who has extensive overseas experience.
