A few minutes’ walk from Higashi-Kitazawa Station will take you to Nidaime Kayamori, a creative restaurant featuring Wagyu beef, in a residential neighborhood that attracts foodies from near and far. Helmed by Chef Takafumi Kayamori with extensive experience and thorough knowledge of Japanese barbecue cuisine, the restaurant welcomes guests with the chef’s favorite bright-orange door.

Chef Kayamori apprenticed under Chef Hideki Komiyama at Yakiniku Komiyama and further honed his skills at Japanese barbecue restaurants, La Bouef in Yoga and Cossott’e in Tsurumaki, Setagaya, both of which were also helmed by Chef Komiyama. , in 2021. Then, he opened his own restaurant, Nidaime Kayamori, in 2022 to offer creative Wagyu beef feasts.
Nidaime Kayamori mainly features Tamura beef, a variety of Tajima beef, from Tottori. It is high-quality beef guaranteed by the experienced Chef Kayamori to thrill the taste buds of any foodie. The 10-course meal ending with a dessert includes a variety of creative dishes that go beyond the typical barbecue format and showcase the ideas and techniques of Chef Kayamori, such as a yukhoe-inspired delicacy (raw meat dish in Korean cuisine), steak tartare, sirloin beef shabu-shabu (thin slices of beef in hot soup), and deep-fried overnight-dried chicken wings. In particular, the chef’s specialties are worth trying, such as Kayamori’s Hand-rolled Sushi conjured up as if by the hands of a skilled sushi chef and the salad that delights the palate with the crispness of fresh vegetables.

The dimly lit dining room is understated with warm wooden elements. If you take one of the eight counter seats, you can watch the chef working in the kitchen, which will raise your expectations for the next dish. Chef Kayamori gives his all to make each dish worth a bite for guests who visit his place for memorable meals.
