A new must-visit restaurant opened its doors by Togetsukyo Bridge on the Katsura River, a landmark of the historic city of Kyoto. The newly opened restaurant, MUNI LA TERRASSE, is housed in MUNI KYOTO, a small luxury hotel conveniently located four minutes on foot from Randen Arashiyama Station or 10 minutes on foot from JR Arashiyama Station. Visitors approaching from Hankyu Arashiyama Station, a 10-minute walk across the river, can enjoy the beautiful scenery from Togetsukyo Bridge on the way to the restaurant. The simple, minimal, and sophisticated interior is in harmony with the nature in Kyoto and was designed by Yasuda Design Institute.
MUNI LA TERRASSE is helmed by Chef Alessandro Guardiani from San Remo, Italy. He has honed his culinary skills at Alain Ducasse restaurants for 10 years since joining Franck Cerutti’s brigade at Le Grill, an Alain Ducasse restaurant located in the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo in Monaco, in 2012. He was assigned the position of assistant chef at Le Meurice Alain Ducasse, a two-star restaurant in Le Meurice Hotel in Paris, in 2016 and then catapulted to the position of chef of MUNI LA TERRASSE when it opened.
MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE, a restaurant housed together in Hotel MUNI KYOTO, also offers dishes prepared by Chef Guardiani. Some of the dishes served at MUNI LA TERRASSE are prepared in the kitchen of MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE.
MUNI LA TERRASSE offers French classics with a modern, casual touch that captures the essence of Alain Ducasse cuisine. These dishes, also twisted with the vibes of Kyoto to add a new dimension to the world of Alain Ducasse, caused the chef to be awarded one star in a world-class gourmet selection. The menu features quality ingredients, mostly sourced within Japan, and continues to explore more ingredients from Kyoto.
The drink menu is shared with MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE. The wine list mostly consists of French wines curated by the Alain Ducasse Group in Paris to suit the tastes of Japanese guests. The food and alcohol pairings come in two to three glasses for lunch and three to five glasses for dinner, allowing guests to choose quantities and labels.
One of the most attractive features of MUNI LA TERRASSE is the view from the dining room. The floor-to-ceiling windows on one side allow guests to enjoy the stunning views of Togetsukyo Bridge while relishing delicious food. Inspired by the flow of water, the countertop is made of glass, echoing the dynamic flow of the Katsura River (Oi River) in front of the restaurant. Inside the restaurant, whose interior is as simple and minimal as the exterior reminiscent of a traditional Japanese house, there are 18 counter seats and four tables with four seats each. In addition, the outdoor terrace (with two dining tables and two coffee tables) is open for lunch. All together, the restaurant is versatile for various purposes, such as dates, socializing, and family gatherings. Children of any age are also welcome at the restaurant.
