A renovation of a long-established tea house in Gion where customers can enjoy the elegance of Kyoto culture.

Tsudaro is on the Hanamikoji street, 5 minutes walk from Gion-Shijo station which is located in the heart of Kyoto’s entertainment district, Gion.

Tsudaro was originally a tea house established at the end of Edo period, then relocated to the present address in the early Taisho era.
In 2010, it was renovated and reopened as a restaurant. The second floor retains the old tea house style, with a private room with tatami flooring that has a capacity of up to 22 customers. On the first floor, you can enjoy meal comfortably at a big one-piece wooden counter made of more than 500-year-old Japanese elm, while watching a Japanese style inner court.

Elegant Japanese cuisine are served using fresh and high-quality fish and carefully selected seasonal Kyoto vegetables.
The collagen-rich soft-shelled turtle hot pot is a popular dish in winter. All dishes are carefully prepared by the chef to incorporate the season. The dish plate, bowls and glasses are from the antique collection of the owner, who is also the director of the Kiyomizu Sannen-Zaka Museum.
At the dinner time, the dish created by a Living National Treasure and the old baccarat glasses are used to set off the beautiful food.
In addition to the sake procured from brewers in Kyoto, the rich selection of wine stored in the newly refurnished wine cellar is also very charming. You can always choose a glass wine from a selection of 10 wine, among a collection of 300 different types that are mainly from Europe. At night, you can also enjoy a musical performance of a traditional Japanese instrument.

Tsudaro holds various cultural events such as the lunch meeting with Maiko (a young apprentice geisha girl), and art appreciation events.
There is also a mini antique shop inside Tsudaro called “Mahora”. You can purchase Meiji era craftwork and beautiful jewelry from around the world which have been carefully chose by the owner.

In a reminiscent mood of the former tea house, you can experience a traditional Geisha and Maiko entertainment.
Please enjoy Kyoto and Japanese culture with all the five senses and have a precious experience in Tsudaro.
