Located in Tokyo's Ginza 7-chome, "Restaurant Yamauchi" was opened on the former site of "Restaurant Yonemura" Ginza location. With the concept of "Ginza-Kyoto fusion," the owner-chef Toshio Yamauchi brings us a restaurant in Ginza which nonetheless lets us taste the scents of Kyoto.
At the age of 24, Mr. Yamauchi apprenticed under Masayasu Yonemura of "Restaurant Yonemura," and after 25 years of training, he opened "Restaurant Yamauchi" in April 2018. Bringing out the maximum potential of ingredients, he creates dramatic dishes. Every week he buys ingredients from the farms of Kyotanba, Kyoto, an area of abundant nature. Each season he creates a new menu using fresh seasonal vegetables, Kyoto rice, and wagyu beef fillets. "I want my customers to eat a course meal which is like the story from a movie," says Mr. Yamauchi, describing the passion which he pours into his food. The story woven by the ingredients is dramatically brought to life by the wide array of alcohol. There are 8 types of sake, 17 varieties of Champagne, and an assortment of 30 red and white wine—mostly from France and California—always in stock.
The interior is laid out with 6 counter seats by the open kitchen and 1 table for 6. The Northern European furniture lends a warm atmosphere, and Mr. Yamauchi's meticulous attention to detail shines in the flatware made by Kyoto artists and the Edokiriko glassware certified as the traditional folk craft. From daily casual dining to business entertainment and formal dinners, to special anniversaries, Restaurant Yamauchi's special dishes can be enjoyed on a variety of occasions.
