Refined French delicacies to be discovered in Okinawa

In an unusually quiet part of central Naha, Okinawa, you will find the calm visage of the French restaurant, "UEHARA". The owner-chef, Masaharu Uehara traveled to France when he was just 19, racking up experience at several different restaurants, including a restaurant with world gourmet guide award. At 30, he returned to Japan, setting up a restaurant in his native Okinawa in 2011.

Ingredients at the restaurant include fine quality pork, sea urchin, and lobster from Okinawa, as well as produce imported directly from France, such as foie gras and truffles. Uehara is not fussy about producing areas, carefully selecting and procuring the best of the season from all over Japan. His culinary technique is all about what he omits, rather than what he adds. Chef Uehara's motto is ""simplicity"", and you will find nothing unnecessary in his seasonings or his platings, which allows the flavor and shape of each ingredient to really stand out. His chef's selection dish is composed of seasonal ingredients, so there will always be something new to try whenever you come back to the restaurant. Wine is available by the glass, and there are at least 2-3 kinds of red, white, and champagne on the menu, mostly French in origin. Wines can be recommended according to diners' tastes, or you can try one of the fantastic wine pairings that produce synergy with the food.

Inside ""UEHARA"" is rather sparse, with no paintings or other artworks in sight. Rather, the predominantly white interior design creates a refined and elegant space that perfectly complements Chef Uehara's approach to cooking. There is only table seating at the restaurant, with the space between tables roomy enough for everyone to enjoy a leisurely meal. Chef Uehara serves just three groups a day, allowing him to devote himself totally to entertaining his guests with his finely crafted dishes. As such, ""UEHARA"" makes the perfect setting for anniversaries and other important family celebrations. Having spent a long time in France, Chef Uehara is also proficient at speaking French, which can be handy for guests visiting from abroad. Come to UEHARA and try the amazing French cuisine forged in France and developed in Okinawa.
