A French home-cooking style "Obanzai (traditional Kyoto-cuisine)" made by a 3-star chef at Azabujuban

“Petit Restaurant La Rêve” is located on the 2nd floor of a building that is 2-minute walk from Azabujuban Station in Tokyo. Chef Shunsuke Kada, who is from a 3-star restaurant in Paris and his wife Yume, who is from a 1-star restaurant in Paris, jointly run the counter-style French restaurants which resemble "Obanzai (traditional Kyoto-cuisine) " to French home cooking.

After working in Ginza “BEIGE ALAIN DUCASSE TOKYO” in 2010, chef Shunsuke then went to train at the 3-star restaurant “Le Meurice” inside an old Paris hotel and “Papillon”. In 2016, he returned to Japan, served as the head chef at “Kakunoshin KABCO” (closed), and then opened “Petit Restaurant La Rêve” in 2019. There are always around 10 types of "Obanzai" that is the restaurant's signature dish. The 4 to 5 types of "Assorted French obanzai" is one of the standard menus. This is a French styled "Obanzai" made with seasonal Japanese ingredients, by the chef who was trained in Grand Maison. You can also enjoy authentic French dishes such as pate de champagne and roasted veal. Ingredients are carefully-selected from producers, either purchased directly from farmers in Hokkaido and Iwate Prefecture, or purchased at farmers' markets. The wine selected by chef Shunsuke, who is a qualified sommelier, has around 50 kinds mainly from France, but also from California and Spain. You can enjoy wine by glass from 1,200 yen (excluding tax) and by bottle from 6,500 yen (excluding tax).

There are only 10 seats at the counter. It is a homey space made of a lot of wood, with purple chairs and silver furnishings as accents, a small French restaurant. The cutlery is composed of chopsticks made of susudake from Okuizumo, which are cut out from bamboo with thatched roofs, with a subdued tone of black and dark brown. It is recommended for private use such as dining with friends or dating. Please take your time and enjoy the French “Obanzai”, made by a talented couple who have studied in Paris, with wine in one hand.
