Perched on the seventh floor of a building at the Ginza 4-chome Crossing in Tokyo, a 1-star restaurant L’Argent offers a head-on view of the famous clock tower of Wako Department Store, in itself worth visiting the restaurant for.
L'Argent is helmed by acclaimed chef Junichi Kato, who started his culinary career with the Tateru Yoshino Group, before honing his skills at three-star Astrance in France and a renowned New Nordic restaurant in Copenhagen. He returned to Japan to take the position of chef at Sublime, where he contributed to its one-star rating. In 2020, he created excitement among gourmets when it was announced he would lead the kitchen at L'Argent.
The cuisine at L'Argent features French flavours and dishes infused with Japanese finesse. While Japanese-French cuisine has become a revered genre in its own right, chef Kato further explores the meaning of offering French cuisine in Ginza, far away from France; his new journey to create innovative French dishes features Japanese ingredients, and his cooking offers a unique dining experience only available at the restaurant. Working to rationalize the sourcing of ingredients, the chef showcases the seasonal bounty of Japan in each of his dishes.
The menu includes Mushroom Soup, one of the chef’s specialties at Sublime – a spectacular creation that elevates fermented mushrooms, the dish encapsulates the chef’s take on neo-Scandinavian fare, making L’Argent a modern restaurant befitting modern-day Ginza. The menu is complemented by a variety of wines, with a focus on France, served by the bottle or glass. In addition, sake and spirits are served from the bar upon request.
The dining room boasts metallic silver walls inspired by the restaurant’s name (“silver” in French), which match the modern dishes crafted by the chef – such exquisite food and ambience make L'Argent the perfect place for business dinners, date nights, anniversaries, and gatherings with lovers of gourmet cuisine. For non-Japanese speakers, the restaurant also offers English-speaking staff to look after their needs.
