Sushi Sakai opens its doors in Nishi-Nakasu, an area known to be a very high class in Fukuoka city. Many fans visit this popular restaurant from near and far, and it is the place to go in Fukuoka for authentic Edo-mae style sushi.
Restaurant owner Daigo Sakai trained for 3 years at a sushi restaurant, after which he moved to Tokyo and trained for 7 years at two-star restaurant Sushi Umi. In 2013 he became independent and opened Sushi Sakai, and earned one star in 2014 and 3 stars in 2019. The menu is “omakase(Chef's choice) course” only, with about 8 otsumami (small dish) and about 12 nigiri sushi.
In addition, sake, champagne, and wine are recommended for pairing by sommelier.
For the ingredients, they use fresh fish caught in the outskirts, and high-grade seafood from all over the country which was caught and transported by air on the same day. “Blowfish sashimi with liver sauce”, served only between October and March, is a very popular otsumami dish. With recommended sushi like the “Pickled Akami”, a small nigiri that is slightly dyed red from the red vinegar used, you can always enjoy a continuously evolving Edo-mae style sushi here.
The restaurant has 11 counter seats and 2 private rooms for 2~6 guests, and the interior is based on a design using Kyoto Kitayama cedar by Shinji Maeda, the foremost figure of traditional Sukiya architecture.
You can enjoy your meal in a relaxing and calm atmosphere, whether it be during a business dinner, date, family event, or a wide range of scenes. We would like you to come and experience a taste and atmosphere that you can only find here at Sushi Sakai.
