Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture is in Kyushu. 70 minutes by Shimabara Railway from Isahaya Station, and 10 minutes’ walk from the nearest Shimabara Station, the approach is the magnificent coastline of Shimabara. You will find “pesceco”, where the light bluish gray building blends in with the ocean view.
Chef Takahiro Inoue was born in Shimabara. As his family runs a fish shop in his home town of Shimabara, and he came into contact with the sea from his childhood. After graduating from a culinary school, he worked at a restaurant in Osaka and returned to his hometown of Shimabara in 2009 to run "Oshokujidokoro Inoue" with his father. In 2014, he rented a small property with 2 floors and 8 tsubo (3.3 square meters) behind the downtown street of the town, and became independent. He opened "Pesceco" as a casual Italian restaurant in the town. In August 2018, he steered the course from "a dish that cannot be eaten in the countryside" to "a dish that can only be eaten in the countryside", and made a fresh start with a new base of a seaside restaurant "pesceco".
In July 2019, after only 1 year of relocation, the restaurant received one star in the world-known gourmet guide.
He also won the Gold Egg in the new-age young chef competition "RED U -35" 2019.
The chef's idea of gastronomy is
"Coexistence of nature and culture"
Chef Inoue would like to convey the rich nature and the blessings delivered through the hands of the people who live close to it as the culture of Shimabara-no-satohama, which consists of the sea, rivers and mountains. The restaurant serves the Omakase Course of "satohama gastronomy course" that was created with that thought in mind.
The inevitable algorithm is that the new cuisine would make sense if you use local ingredients.
As for drinks, regardless of the country, there is a selection of natural wines, and it is recommended to enjoy each dish with the pairing.
The restaurant proposes a unique style of great marriage of food and drinks, that can only be experienced at “pesceco”.
The restaurant has a long window where the horizontal line of the sea extends beyond the eyes of the seated guest. It is beautiful like a picture that changes with time as you can feel the sea from the inside. The counter facing the kitchen and the Chef's Table are made of marble, and the dining room with wooden furniture is made of table linen for a natural and elegant look.
Why not enjoy a 1-day travel experiencing "Culture that connects food and nature" at Shimabara's “pesceco”?
