Located in a convenient downtown area for sightseeing in Takaoka-cho, Japanese restaurant “Kanazawa Setsuri” is a 5-minute walk from “Omicho Market” which supports Ishikawa and Kanazawa food. The chef, Yasuo Kawada, is known as the second-generation chef of Kanazawa's long-established restaurant “Kaiseki Tsuruko”.
After training in “Ajikitcho” in Osaka, chef Kawada returned to his parents' home, “Kaiseki Tsuruko” at the age of 25. In the TV program "Iron Chef" he showed his remarkable talent by competing with Rokusaburo Michiba in "Monkfish Contest". He became the head chef at the age of 33 and was awarded two stars by world famous gourmet guide. In January 2016, he appeared on a TV program called "Jonetsu Tairiku". However, in ryotei, there was a reality that warm dishes cooled down before they were brought to the customers from the kitchen. With the thought of "nothing beats the persuasive power of a cook to cook in front of customer", “Kaiseki Tsuruko” temporarily closed in 2018, and in November 2019, opened again as “Kanazawa Setsuri”, which serves mainly counter seats.
The ingredients are purchased from reliable brokers in “Omicho Market” with long-standing relationships. And chef Kawada is very thorough in incorporating what he wants to eat at that time and what he wants to eat on that day into the menu, and never provides thing he doesn't like. In “Kanazawa Setsuri”, "Blackthroat seaperch shabu-shabu" and "Steamed egg with crab miso sherbet" are popular. The proprietress selects about 15 kinds of sake from all over Japan, including local sake.
There are 7 counter seats and private room with 4 table seats. One of the features of “Kanazawa Setsuri” is that a large monitor in front of the counter shows the scenery of Kanazawa and you can enjoy your meal while feeling the climate of Kanazawa. The dinnerware and sake cups are decorated with Kanazawa-style Kutani-ware. “Kanazawa Setsuri”, which is full of the charm of Kanazawa and chef Kawada's passion, is loved by local people, and is a good restaurant that even guests from outside the prefecture can enjoy the charm of Kanazawa. We hope you will enjoy the authentic Japanese cuisine of chef Kawada that is backed by his career.
