Located a four-minute walk from Osaka Metro Awaza Station, Utsubo Park is a verdant urban oasis. On first encounters, guests are greeted by a contemporary white entrance engraved only with the name of the restaurant, suggesting an enigmatic atmosphere that gives little away to the outside world.
The kitchen is led by chef Akinari Fujita. After training at several restaurants in his hometown of Osaka, Fujita trained under Kako Takuo at anonyme in Kobe. After that, he left for Europe to study in Normandy, Basque and Lyon in France for four-and-a-half years. On his last stop in Europe, he was appointed chef at the acclaimed neo-bistro L'Archange in Lyon. After returning to Japan in 2013, he opened agnel d'or, where it has been awarded one star, which it retains to this day.
The cuisine is rooted in the classic French style, with a focus on the sauce, allowing the beauty of Fujita’s modern preparation and presentation to shine. Ingredients are delivered directly from the outskirts of Osaka and elsewhere in Japan. Vegetables are from trusted vegetable producers, and seafood is sourced from the Goto Islands and Sakaiminato, where personal relationships with individual producers are valued, and the chef’s cuisine is created from conversations with those he trusts.
Each dish is plated on modern ceramics with beautiful black and navy. The restaurant displays works by Utsubawa artists in the Kansai region, such as Masahiro Wadayama and Tiara Kuroki.
A sommelier is stationed, and French wine is selected to complement the menu. Wine pairings are also available.
The interior, which is based on white to embody simplicity and minimalism, complements the food and guests. With just 14 tables, the restaurant is a destination for gourmands who travel for dates, anniversaries, or the sheer pleasure of Fujita's cuisine. An English language menu is also available for international guests.
