An Italian restaurant opened in Shirokane, Tokyo, by a devoted chef who removes unnecessary frills and puts his heart and soul into each dish

Nestled in a tranquil residential neighborhood of Shirokane, Tokyo, TATSUMI is accessed by stairs outside the building. As you pass through the door at the top of the stairs, you will be greeted with a refined, understated interior.
TATSUMI was opened in 2021 by a renowned chef, Tatsumi Watanabe, who honed his skills as a sous-chef at Il Teatrino da Salone in Hibiya and as a chef at K+ (Kagero Plus), an Italian restaurant in Nishi-Azabu affiliated with Restaurant l'equateur. Now, with his own restaurant, he creates his ideal Italian cuisine, putting his heart and soul into each dish.

“I try to create simple, plain dishes,” says Chef Watanabe. “So, I take care not to arrange dishes merely for decoration or add any unnecessary frills.” He is also particular about ingredients, sourcing precious vegetables from Osaka and seafood fresh from the sea in Fukuoka. Carefully selected from around Japan, they taste even better and richer when combined with the chef’s creative flair. Especially, “Consommé of Shamo Chicken from Okukuji, Ibaraki,” a popular dish made from shamo breast, has such a deep, rich flavor that it can tempt the appetite. Another signature dish, Raviolone (which means “big ravioli”), is topped with a whole egg yolk from Tokushima. Once you cut into the egg, the yolk runs out, captivating the palate of all those who taste it.
Chef Watanabe’s hearty dishes are enhanced when paired with wines selected by Sommelier Yuji Tsutsumi. With some 400 bottles in stock, mostly from Bourgogne, the restaurant also offers pairing options. The drink menu also includes Italian old vintages, popular Japanese whiskies, and soft drinks.

The restaurant’s interior is as simple as its dishes, without any extra frills. Only the walls are adorned with viridian green accents, a favorite of the chef. The food is also simply presented in lustrous white ceramics, served from the open kitchen at the stylish counter (seating up to eight guests).
Enjoy Chef Watanabe’s dishes prepared with heart and soul with your family, significant other, friends, or colleagues in the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant TATSUMI.
