A new must-visit restaurant opened its doors by Togetsukyo Bridge over the Katsura River, a landmark of the historic city of Kyoto. The restaurant, MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE, is housed in MUNI KYOTO, a small luxury hotel conveniently located four minutes’ walk from Randen Arashiyama Station or 10 minutes’ walk from JR Arashiyama Station, and visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery from Togetsukyo Bridge on the way to the restaurant. The interior designed by Yasuda Design Institute is simple, minimal, and sophisticated, in harmony with nature in Kyoto.
MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE is helmed by Chef Alessandro Guardiani from San Remo, Italy. He has honed his culinary skills at restaurants of Alain Ducasse for 10 years since he joined Franck Cerutti’s brigade at an Alain Ducasse restaurant, Le Grill, in the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo in Monaco in 2012. He was assigned as the assistant chef of Le Meurice Alain Ducasse, a two-star restaurant, in Le Meurice Hotel in Paris in 2016 and then catapulted to the chef of MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE when it opened.
MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE offers French classics with modern elements that capture the essence of Alain Ducasse cuisine. The flamboyant and sophisticated world expressed through the dishes has made the restaurant win one star in a world-class gourmet selection. The dishes are further twisted with the vibes of Kyoto to add a new dimension to the world of Alain Ducasse. The desserts are made with as little sugar as possible to highlight the natural sweetness of the ingredients, as per the philosophy of Alain Ducasse. MUNI LA TERRASSE, a casual restaurant housed together in Hotel MUNI KYOTO, also offers dishes supervised by Chef Guardiani.
The wine list is mostly French, curated by the Alain Ducasse Group in Paris to suit the tastes of Japanese people. Meanwhile, the Japanese sake menu suggests new food and drink combinations, offering sakes created to fit the philosophy of Alain Ducasse, such as Junmai Alain Ducasse Sélection from Nakamura Brewing in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, and Alain Ducasse Sparkling Sake from Shichiken Yamanashi Meijo in Yamanashi. The food and alcohol pairings come in three to five glasses, depending on the guest’s preference.
With chic, modern interior designs in reds and browns, MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE has 32 table seats (including six in a private dining room). Located in the basement, the main dining room faces a courtyard, the Light Garden, which is filled with natural light from above. The globular silver objects in the courtyard reflect the light on the upper side and mirror the ground on the downside. The sophisticated dishes are served on French porcelain plates, such as Bernardaud and J.L. Coquet. Sometimes, some tables are set with tableware from the collection of Alain Ducasse, including Baccarat antique glassware and Raynaud dinnerware.
The clientele mostly consists of patrons of Alain Ducasse restaurants in Tokyo and Paris and foodies interested in his gastronomic philosophy.
Located in one of the most beautiful scenic spots in Japan with views of Arashiyama Mountains and Togetsukyo Bridge, MUNI ALAIN DUCASSE invites guests into the unique world of an internationally renowned chef in the midst of the historic city of Kyoto.
