A historic Kyoto establishment in Hanamikoji that blends tradition with innovation

Pass through hanamikoji street from Shijo Street to the south, about 3-minutes' walk on a Kyoto-style sett, Kyoto cuisine "Mokubei" is located diagonally to a Gion practice field. A modest yet characteristic structure for this restaurant with more than 50 years of history.

"In order to preserve tradition, you have to continuously evolve with the times. We want to retain the fundamentals yet while flexible to explore new ways of cooking." says Mr. Terada, the 4th generation owner. Using top quality kombu seaweed and two types of bonito flakes, they carefully prepare the broth under strict temperature control and pair it with finely selected ingredients.

For the best harmony of cuisine, Mr. Terada choosing tableware by his intuition but not chasing branding. To present the beauty of seasons and also special festival in Kyoto, Haiku by the owner will be a extra taste for the appetizers, showing the refined hospitality.
